RES School Council Meeting Minutes

Oct 9th, 2019

 

In Attendance: Jacquie Fleming, Heidi Edwards, Amy Baker, Jamie Jensen, Jana McKee, Kira Earl, Connie Shurtz, Christal Bevans,  Marlin Hogg

*Natalie Ball is away Jacquie Fleming is Chairing this meeting

 

Welcome Back To School BBQ Update: Jacquie Fleming

  • We had 600-700 people in attendance plus 70 staff at the BBQ  
  • Cost $1300 We made $800 from admission and Food Sales
  • RES donated $1000
  • Made a profit of $500
  • We used more pork this year and the buns were bigger
  • We may shorten meet the teacher night to 5:30-7pm as it is a long day for teachers
  • Would like to promote etransfer next year and make more information available how to etransfer for the event online before the BBQ as only 3 people etransfered 
  • Having board and central office staff to help our was great
  • We will be doing thank you cards for RES/ Home hardware /Merc/ 6 S transport/ Burt & Mac and Jim Bennett - Kira will do those up.
  • Also the addition of the aprons looked great

Financial Update: Kira Earl

 

  • Sheet passed out and discussed October 2019 Financial Report 
  • Needed the school to donate to make BBQ happen, Thank you to RES!
  • Raymond Dental donation of $1500 was made for the Healthy Snack Fridge
  • We got donations of $550 to the Healthy Snack Fridge from the BBQ
  • We need to spend some council money some ways discussed are: Incentives for the years volunteers and have a draw at the end of the year for bigger things etc, Money for teachers to help students at book fairs and classrooms,  $20 gift cards to teachers to a dollar store to spend, teacher and support staff appreciation dinner catered?, and donations for the sick kids who come into the office, another idea was to put money into buying a stamp with our logo RESC on it
  •  We'll think more on other options as well
  • We voted online to spend funds on world teacher day for food platters put together by the merc and we donated the left over chips and cookies from the BBQ

 

Other Business: Jacquie Fleming:

 

  • Stencils:  Sidewalk/Sensory -The Westwind early years coalition has stencils we could borrow from them and they would love to share with us.
  • Marlin has spare yellow road paint and painting supplies we could us as well the school account at home hardware
  • Marlin asked if we could touch up other painted games outside too
  • We will need volunteers to paint
  • We will need blue, white, and red paint as well
  • Jacquie will ask if we can put sidewalk stencils elsewhere in town and will be presenting at town council on October 15th
  • We discussed the Book Houses we will have 4 going to the clinic, school, rainbow park, and the senior center and we can mount them on the walls 

 

  •  RES has books to stock them with
  • Greg Robinson is concerned we would be affiliated with the library
  • We would need to put a contact number and the purpose on each of the "little libraries"
  • Division School Council meeting will be October 23rd in Cardston from 9-12
  • Natalie will be in attendance and one more council member may attend
  • Pizza Volunteers have been found and filled thank you!
  • Class Lists posting and FOIP discussed we have over 800 students and have students where the risk of abduction is a real threat
  • By sharing lists it pushes liability issues and puts children at risk
  • Minister of Education came to Raymond and toured the schools 

Principles Report: Marlin Hogg

  • Discussed the idea of a year end/ beginning of the school year newsletter to welcome new teachers and say good bye to those that moved on
  • been an incredible start to the new school year with 23 new registrations for kindergarten the last week of august and creating a new class and hiring of another teacher for kindergarten
