RES SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING

September 10, 2025

 

In Attendance: Cheri Gilbert, Jerry Salmon, Angela Leavitt, Julie Vereschagin, Hydee Edwards, Katie Ryan, Erin Salmon, Eden Wirzba, Diane Nelson, Bonnie Fromm, Kirstie Williams

 

1. Principal business

  • The inclusive playground is in the grant matching stage. Hoping construction will be started in the spring.
  • Asked school council to brainstorm ideas of how to have parents speak positively about school at home using COMETS.
  • Moving Grade 6 to the other hall has been positive. As well the students move classrooms to be taught different subjects by different teachers. This has also been well received. 

 

2. Open positions

 The following show open positions and pending changes

  • Pre-School
  • Kindergarten - Bonnie Fromm
  • Grade 1
  • Grade 3 - Kirstie Williams 
  • Grade 4
  • Grade 6 - Sarah Scaplen

 

3. What can council members do to help create a partnership between the parents and the school?

  • Getting Volunteers in the school
  • Having volunteers come do teachers’ busy work once a week. Angela will ask the teachers if they would want this.
  • A possible safety patrol pilot program where parents are trained like the students and parents do safety patrol shifts with the students

 

4. Overview of Recess & Lunch Supervision 

  • teachers and EAs have a certain amount of contracted hours. School does its best to make this even and within the contracted hours, but there are just not enough hours. 
  • Council wants to see if we can find volunteers to come supervise lunchtime recess. 

 

5. Calendar

  • Book Fair Oct 6-Oct 10
  • Picture day Oct 8th

 

6. Other Business

  • Please brainstorm ideas for what school council could do this school year and bring your ideas to the next meeting
  • The next meeting is changed to a week earlier, October 1st, due to picture day
