RES Council Meeting Minutes - October 13, 2021


1. Update from Jerry
a. On November 8th RES will have a Holocaust Survivor, Eva Olsson, 97,
speak to grades 4-6.
b. Parents will be able to zoom in if wanted.


2. Second Step Update
a. Once restrictions ease at the school we may set up an event of some kind
for the parents to learn more about the program
b. The program is going well with the children and teachers have weekly
plans
c. The school website has a section where parents can view what is being
taught for the week.


3. Covid update
a. Once there are 3 positive cases (adults or kids) in a class within 5 days
then the class will go to online learning for two weeks


4. Police record and other volunteer checks
a. Yes all volunteers on council and those who will be in the school are to
have a RCMP and Child Intervention Check.
b. All information needed to email for the CIC is in the email send from Jerry
to council members,


5. Teacher appreciation gifts
a. Date to be discussed and set within our messenger group chat.


6. What is the population of the school
a. 672 students.


7. How to get the preschool/ kindergarten involved in school events
a. Do they get the healthy snack program? Yes! A bowl in the room gets filled
with snacks for them.
b. A discussion was had on actions that can take place to better involve the
two above mentioned groups in the school.
c. There has been a lot of forward movement in the last couple of years in
regards to this concern.


8. Room parents - Are they still a thing?
a. Teachers are more using Seesaw to find volunteers
b. Due to FOIP concerns RES will not have them at this time.


9. Pizza moms
a. Hannah will work with Cheri and the office to coordinate a new plan.
b. Natalie can fill in on Wednesdays not Thursdays if needed.


10. Breakdown of distribution of hot lunch funds
a. Each teacher gets $100 per year to spend as they wish for their class. The
money above that amount goes to school generated funds and the school
chooses where to put, for example-new school equipment.


11. Book Fair
a. Volunteers needed for October 18 - 22
b. Jessica will set up the volunteer online paper
c. We need one person to fill each shift


12. Vaccine Mandate Forum Update
a. Discuss on possible actions to be taken as a council
b. Natalie will reach out to Carmen and get in touch with Rebecca at the
district office to help with the direction of this survey.


13. Goals
a. Think about goals for the year, these will be discussed at the next meeting
b. Jerry will send council members the RES goals so
