RES Council Meeting Minutes

February 24th, 202l

Zoom Meeting

In attendance: Mr. Salmon, Mr. Jensen, Natalie Ball, Connie Shurtz, Kirstie Williams, Christal Bevans, Alana Sala, Colin Searle, Hydee Edwards

1. Principle Report: Mr. Salmon

• Hiring of Kate Harker 2 days/week high priority is to communicate with public in posting on IG/Website/FB its up and running well
• Started staff spotlights
• Traci Ellingson is leaving this week sad to see her go
• Jenae Olsen starts teaching grade 5
• Discussion on whether or not student ID cards are a necessary expense do we use them? are they collectables? Decided to put a out an RES survey to determine a result as council was 50/50
• Discussion on kids leaving school grounds without parent permission determined it must be with parent permission and communication with teacher let the teacher know by sending a note or message
• Update on a new playgrounds
• There is a new shed coming to free up space in the spring or fall new concrete will be poured and 6 more ball hoops of various heights will be installed so the younger and older grades have more options
• There will be a preschool grant to finish a natural playground for the preschool
• There is a brand new sensory room for complex needs and regulated students who need it
• Supervision no extra positions hired doors are unlocked if they need in to go to the bathroom etc and there are always 2-3 on supervision each recess
• There are 22 recesses to cover during the day discussion on what can be done to help alleviate the strain would volunteers be accepted? would they need a background check etc? more to come on a follow up discussion
• Discussion on the RES school education plan and engaging all stake holders maybe sending out a survey or small focus groups to see what are the most important issues to move forward with and implement a three year plan and input of what the direction should be

2. Natalie Ball:

• ASCA - Need 2 volunteers to attend a virtual conf in April 23-25 still a cap on numbers need to decide who wants to go
• Resolutions to go over and vote on for next meeting and to add to the school page so parents are aware
• Parent concerns with kids afraid to go into the school through the front doors concerns over covid rules, plexi glass, the lack of a welcoming environment they feel it is something that needs addressed and discussed in ways to work on it and change the feeling for our students, teachers & community within our school.
• Do we have the skills to self regulate
• How do we treat kids at RES
• What are the social/emotional learning skills to be acquired? To be self aware something the staff at RES will be learning through workshops and and pdays
• Calendar Discussion on so many days off and holiday weeks what do we think?
